Definition:
An exercise performed to train staff and occupants, and to elevate their
efficiency and effectiveness, in carrying out emergency evacuation procedures.
Section
807 of the NYS Education Law requires that drills be conducted in all
buildings.
The
new NYS Fire Code states the frequency of such drills as follows:

EH&S
with assistance from UPD shall be responsible for conducting these drills
and generating the appropriate paperwork, which will then be forwarded
to EH&S.
Per
the requirements of the Fire Code of NYS, Chapter 4, 405.4, the drills
shall be held at unexpected times and under varying conditions.
Records
of Drills shall include the following information:

identity of the person conducting the drill
- date and time of the drill
- notification method used
- staff members on duty and participating
- special conditions (if any) simulated
- problems encountered
- weather conditions during the drill
- time for complete evacuation
