Policy Title:
Appeal of Parking Tickets
The following office is responsible for the accuracy of the information contained in this policy:

Parking Services

Parking tickets may be paid the same daythey are issued at the Parking Services office or the Information Booth during business hours. Acceptable method of payment includes: check, cash, Master Card, VISA, Discover Card, or American Express.  For parking tickets that a person intend to challenge rather that pay on the date of issuance, the ticket will be transmitted to Student Accounts and will remain a charge on the account pending resolution of the appeal.  All holds and processing blocks will be in effect during this period.

Payments made after the ticket issuance date can only be made to the Student Accounts Office, located on the first floor of the Student Wing Building.  Payment may be made either through the BU Brain using self-serve and the Quick Pay options or in person during normal business hours.  Tickets issued to non affiliated persons must pay for their tickets at the Information Booth or the Parking Services office during normal business hours.

A written appeal of a ticket must be made within thirty (30) days after issuance of the ticket. Appeal forms are obtained at Parking Services, AD G-8. It is noted on the appeal form that arrangements may be made for a personal appeal. Personal appeals are scheduled through Parking Services Office, but the times of availability are set monthly by the Parking Appeals Board; therefore, Parking Services must schedule appointments based on available hours. The processing of appeals is the responsibility of the Parking Appeals Board.

Should the alleged violator fail to appear at the time fixed for the personal appeal without prior notice, or should no hearing be requested within the prescribed thirty (30) day period, the complaint is considered proved and shall warrant such action as may then be appropriate.

The authority for the Parking Appeals Board stems from Section 362 of the Education Law, where it is provided that the "...chief administrative officer shall designate a hearing officer or board not to exceed three (3) persons to hear complaints for violation of campus traffic and parking regulations enforceable on campus. Such hearing officer or board shall not be bound by the rules of evidence but may hear or receive any testimony or evidence directly relevant and material to the issues presented." A notice of the decision of the Parking Appeals Board is transmitted to the appellant.
